Career Opportunities
The M.A. in Educational Media and Technology
program focuses on the professional and
effective us of technology in the classroom by
educators, including administrators. Students
who complete this program will be able to:
1) provide
a rationale for using technology in the educational process;
2) identify
contributions of major leaders in the field of educational
media
technology and instructional theory, and the
affect that each leader has had on the field;
3) assess
current trends in the area of educational
media technology and relate the trends to past
events and future implications;
4) integrate
technology into instructional programs;
5) teach
the operation and various uses of educational
technology in instruction;
6) act as consultants/
facilitators in educational media technology;
7) design
and develop instructional products to meet specified needs;
8) evaluate the
effectiveness of instructional materials and
systems.
Accreditation
The EMU College of Education is accredited by
the National Council for Accreditation of
Teacher Education and approved by the
Michigan Department of Education for the
preparation of educational personnel.
After completing the M.A. in Educational
Media and Technology already certified Michigan
teachers can apply for the Educational
Technology Endorsement.
The mission of the Master of Art
in Educational Media and Technology program is to prepare
professionals who are capable of facilitating student learning
in a variety of settings. The program is
designed to provide students with both the knowledge base
and the application skills that are
required to use technology effectively in education. Focusing
on the design, development, utilization,
management and evaluation of instructional systems moves
us toward achieving this mission.
Master of Arts in Educational Media
and Technology (EDMT)
Number of Credits
• 21 credit hours of EDMT courses which are offered
online with opportunities for students to meet faceto-
face as needed
• 6 credit hours of education foundation courses
which are often offered on campus by faculty in the
respective programs (e.g., Education Psychology,
Curriculum and Instruction, Social Foundations),
and
• 3 credit hours of electives.

Technology (3); Prerequisites: EDMT 602 and

• EDMT 653 Issues and Emerging Educational
Technologies (3); Prerequisites: EDMT602,
EDMT603, EDMT628, EDMT623 or a minimum of
12 graduate credits in EDMT
Capstone Course and Project
• EDMT 695 Seminar in Educational Technology (3);
Prerequisites: Admission to the EDMT master’s
program, completion of foundations courses,
restricted Ed Tech electives, outside electives and
required EDMT core courses (excluding EDMT694/
695). This course is only for students who intend to do
their EDMT culminating project.

• EDPS 602 Psychology of the Adult Learner (2) or
• EDPS 603 Principles of Classroom Learning (2)

• CURR 655 Curriculum Foundations (2) or

ONE of the following two Research courses:

Advising
An Educational Media and Technology faculty will work with
you to assist in the exploration of degree requirements,
evaluation of applications for admission to a degree
program, preparation of a plan of study, approval of
program changes, and recommendation for graduation.

Admission
1. Comply with the Graduate School’s admission requirements.
2. Hold a 2.75 undergraduate GPA or 3.0 in the last half
of
the undergraduate work or 3.3 GPA in 12 hours or more
of work at the graduate level or a minimum 50th
percentile on the GRE writing. International students
must have a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL.
3. For early childhood education, elementary education,
middle level education, secondary education, common
learnings in curriculum and reading, hold a valid
teaching credential. For international students who do
not intend to teach in the United States, this requirement
can be waived.
4. Furnish an analysis of professional goals written by
the
candidate. This analysis should include a description of
how the chosen degree program will help meeting the
selected goals and how the candidate’s life experiences,
accomplishments and interests will contribute to his or
her success in the program; and
5. Request and have submitted two letters of recommendation
that address the candidate’s professional
commitment, experience and potential.
The transcripts, analysis of goals and letters of recommendation
should give evidence of potential for graduate-level
scholarship.
