Exams:
The Distance Education
Office will proctor exams for students M-F 9am-3pm (excluding University
closures). Exams are not usually offered during the University’s final exam weeks. Exams should be scheduled
at
least two weeks in advance of the desired exam date. Students should
follow the instructions in their course pack to prepare for their exam.
Any questions should be clarified with the course’s instructor.
Students
are given two hours to complete Independent Learning exams.
Students may
obtain the services of a proctor in their community. Suitable proctors
are often senior public school administrators, college administrators,
certified public librarians, embassy officers, and, for
those in uniform, base education officers. Exams must be taken at the
proctor’s place of business. Relatives may not serve as proctors.
All
proctors must be approved by the Distance Education office.
Students are responsible
for finding outside proctors that satisfy the
guidelines listed above. Prior to scheduling an examination at a
location other than the Distance Education office, the following items
must be submitted:
A request for
their examination to be sent to a proctor (e-mailed, faxed or
sent via USPS to the Distance Education office).
A letter from
the prospective proctor indicating their willingness to supervise
an examination. The letter should be on letterhead and mailed/faxed
from the proctor to the Distance Education office.
Upon satisfactory
verification, the exam and instructions will be sent
to the proctor.
Grading,
Pass/Fail Option:
Students receive
letter grades (A, A-, B+, etc.) upon course completion. Grades are
posted after the course is completed. Students who do not complete
within the original semester will receive an incomplete that will
later be changed to a letter grade upon completion of the course.
Transcripts may
be ordered from the Office of Academic Records. Juniors and seniors
who would like to take a free elective course via the pass/fail
option should file a request with the Office
of Academic Advising at the time of registration.
