School Camping
Eastern Michigan University's long history of leadership
in education has a unique expression at the KEEC through
its resident school camping program. The program involves
having one or two 5th or 6th grade classes with their teachers
in residence for two to four nights. The students and teachers
spend several days to a week observing wildlife, becoming
aware of interrelationships, and learning to better evaluate
our world.
The biological and geological features of the
area are unmatched in southern Michigan. In addition, the
adjacent Lapeer State Game Area is a valuable supplemental
resource. Schools interested in a camping experience with
the opportunity for a lively look at the natural environment
as well as excellent examples of constructive management
practices will find the Center an ideal location.
Assistance in program planning is available through the
Camp Director, who will also act as an in-camp resource.
During the planning process other resource persons can frequently
be identified. For information regarding availability, policies,
procedures, and rates contact the director.
