The SHRM Essentials of Human Resource Management Certificate Program is an introductory course offering a comprehensive overview of the human resource function. The course covers today's most vital and timely topics, including employment law, selecting qualified employees, compensation, orientation and training, and the employee performance process.

The SHRM Essentials course is specifically designed to challenge you and provide the skills you need to confidently face today's complex HR situations and compliance issues within your organization. You will participate in interactive case study activities designed for you to practice real-life HR situations in a non-threatening atmosphere.

Offered in partnership with the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), this cost-effective course covers real-life HR issues, including employment law, selecting qualified employees, compensation, the employee performance process, and much more. You will also learn key information to keep you on track with compliance issues.

You'll benefit from the shared experiences of your instructor and peers, while learning techniques for handling HR challenges through interactive case studies designed to make you feel comfortable dealing with HR issues. In addition, you'll receive a Certificate of Completion from our institution and have the opportunity to earn 1.5 continuing education units (CEUs) for completing this course.

Instructors : Antoinette Knechtges & Ann Davis

Ann M. Davis, SPHR
Ann Davis is a Human Resources Consultant with over 18 years of experience in both specialist and generalist human resource roles. She has facilitated a variety of management training programs and has designed and led employee education programs. Ann has gained strategic management experience working as an Assistant Vice President/Human Resources Director for a privately-held insurance company. In addition, she has worked for a publicly-traded, international company as both a Senior Benefits Specialist and an Organizational Learning Consultant. She has facilitated the EMU SHRM Learning System courses as well as the Essentials of HR Management for the past 7years.

Toni Knechtges, SPHR
Toni is a full time lecturer in the management department at Eastern Michigan
University. She has facilitated the SHRM Learning System as well as the Essentials of HR Management courses, and taught Business Ethics courses for the past 5 years at EMU. Toni comes from a background of twenty plus years in the Human Resource field in the automotive and transportation sectors. She is the Director for the Michigan Council of SHRM, a Past President and current Advisory Board member of the Human Resources Association of Greater Detroit, and a member of the Greater Ann Arbor Society of Human Resource Management.

Course investment

A course investment of $540 includes SHRM Essentials of HR Management Certificate Program manual consisting of six modules, glossary, and index as well as Participant's Activities Book and 18 hours of classroom instruction. Please register by March 12.
