Want to finish your degree, but don't want to sit in classes learning things you already gleaned in life? Prior learning assessment (PLA) may be right for you. Through PLA, you can earn credit for life experiences that match an EMU class from participating departments. This could include learning from:

  • Seminars
  • Training completed on the job
  • Knowledge acquired independently

A few things you should know about PLA:

You must be admitted to Eastern Michigan University to earn credit for college-level learning you have gained outside the college environment.

The PLA process requires you to:

  • Identify and analyze learning
  • Document experience
  • Match the learning to EMU courses
  • Compile a written portfolio for each class in which you hope to gain credit
