This workshop uses a blend of didactic and experiential techniques to provide practitioners with an understanding of the ethical and legal issues associated with violence risk assessment. Participants will also learn how to identify and respond to risks.  

Learning Objectives:

Participants will develop:

  • An understanding of legal duties associated with professional practice with violent client groups.
  • An understanding of ethical obligations to potential victims and the violent client.
  • The ability to identify the ethical issues associated with actuarial, psychometric and clinical risk assessment systems.
  • The ability to apply psychometric and clinical assessment systems in practice.
  • Ethically grounded approaches to risk management with violent clients and potential victims.
