Presenter bios

Tana Bridge

Tana Bridge, Ph.D. and LMSW, is an assistant professor at Eastern Michigan University. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology at EMU, her master's in social work from University of Michigan and her doctorate in philosophy from Wayne State University. She has worked for EMU since 1993. Bridge has authored many grants, as well as published articles in journals such as the Journal of Cancer Education .

Bridge presents "Understanding and Working with Survivors of Trauma" on May 9 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Joan Abbey

Joan Abbey, past adjunct faculty member at both Eastern Michigan University and University of Michigan, has delved deep into the research of social work at both of these institutions. Through her research, she has developed expertise in evaluating social work practice at both clinical and macro levels to create systems for documenting continuous quality improvement.

Abbey lectures on "Social Work Evaluation: Documenting Success for Continuous Quality Improvement" on June 6 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Stephen Wiland

Stephen Wiland, MSW, is a clinical practices administrator for the MIFAST group. He earned his bachelor's in psychology and economics from Michigan State University and his master's in social work from Eastern Michigan University.

Wiland will present "Co-Occurring Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders" on June 13 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

David Mark Ragg

David Mark Ragg graduated from the University of Western Ontario with his bachelor's in social work in 1982. He earned his master's in social work from the University of Connecticut and finished out his education with a PhD from Case Western Reserve University. He currently runs a private practice in Chatham, Ontario and provides martial/family therapy, individual and group therapy. He also holds a sub-specialty in sexuality counseling and therapy with the developmentally disabled.

Ragg will speak on "Ethics and Methods of Violence Risk Assessment" on June 20 and "Working with Emotional Pain" on June 27. Both sessions are from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
