Understanding and Working with Survivors of Trauma - 6 CE hours

Presenter: Tana Bridge

Participants will gain knowledge of complicated loss and trauma theory, assessment considerations and skills necessary for effective, empowerment-focused practice. The class will examine understanding the differences between traumatic and normal grief reaction as well as the impact trauma has on attachment. Further, participants will learn techniques to move clients beyond traumatic responses.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Differentiate between grief responses and complicated/trauma responses.
  • Gain an understanding of trauma-specific terminology.
  • Recognize those events and venues of trauma exposure.
  • Understand the impact trauma has on the brain and on coping.
  • Discern and assess for trauma symptomology.
  • Explore the DSMIV Post Traumatic Stress Disorder classification.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of necessary treatment planning as it relates to the trauma-exposed client.
  • Explore a variety of intervention strategies for individuals struggling with trauma specific symptomology.
